The Kiwanis Club of Yerington was organized on June 15, 2005. Area Kiwanis leaders sought to reestablish a Kiwanis Club in Yerington to serve the children, seniors, and less fortunate of Yerington.

In the spring of 2005 a New Club Building team appeared in Yerington and made contact with a number of business people in the community, recruiting individuals interested in making a difference in the lives of the children in Yerington.

When the requisite 20 members were attained, a charter application was submitted to Kiwanis International and approval was granted to form the club.  The new club was presented with the charter, banner, bell, gavel in official recognition by Kiwanis International.  on August 6, 2005 during its charter and installation ceremony.

Our club is determined to put emphasis on youth academics, youth sports and the schools, as well as seniors and the less fortunate in our community.

Guided by six permanent Objects, our clubs view their role within their respective communities with a great deal of foresight. Key aspects of our club operations include:

  • Evaluating both children’s issues and community needs on an ongoing basis

  • Conducting service projects to respond to those identified needs

  • Maintaining an active membership roster of people who have both the desire and the ability to serve their community

We are part of Kiwanis International, headquartered is in Indianapolis, Indiana.  There are 48 districts, and our California Nevada Hawaii (Cal-Nev-Ha) is the largest.  Our Division 45 has nine clubs, including Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton Township, Fallon, Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Sunrisers, North Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Sierra, and Yerington.

Our club meetings are conducted bi-weekly and offer an atmosphere of fun, learning, and fellowship.

In sum, our club is daily making a difference in improving someone's quality of life.  We are truly an organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
